Housekeeping

Hey! I moved! I'm living in Fremont now. Actually, it's sort of Ballard-Wallingford-Fremont area. I love it :) It's colorful and quiet inside... and right on the BG Trail! Woo hoo! Details of housewarming to come...

In the meantime, I'm also loving the fact that I have color to my skin (and feet, as evidenced below).

No words

I cannot even begin to tell you how beautiful West Virginia is. It was warm, sunny, and... just amazing. I'll write more about the trip soon, but in the meantime, here are some photos from our sunrise hike to tide you over. Steff, Mike, and I hiked to a viewpoint early in the morning, and this is what we found:

Thus begins a two week vacation

I'm off to Hico, West Virginia, tonight to visit Steff! A best friend, Gauley Fest, and West Virginia- isn't it almost heaven or something ;) I've heard so many stories about NARR from her and Munoz that I feel like I've already been there. Munoz assures me I have no idea...

This is going to be fun!

Time

I heard myself say something this morning and suddenly realized it may very well not be true. I seem to be saying it a lot in recent... years. I should just face the facts:

Life will not "slow down."
Things will not "get into a routine."
I will not "get settled."
The winter slump won't provide more time to "catch up,"
And the long summer days still won't fit in all the extra activities.

In short, time has become a precious commodity.

Words fail me

I'm not a show-goer. They're too loud and there are too many people, but last night was the exception. The Paperboys are a five person Celtic, Mexican, folk, pop, and bluegrass band, as described by last night's opening band. But by the end of last night, they were joined on stage by their old bagpiper, two guest fiddle players, a horn player, and a saxaphone player! Add in elements of swing, tapdancing, and brass to come up with one amazing show. I know, it's a really odd mix, but believe me (the John Denver lover...), it was fantastic.

Oh man, I can't stop smiling :)

It's baaaaack...

Undeniably, fall is here. Pretty colors are starting :)

So Laura and I are headed to Vancouver tomorrow afternoon to do some shopping and see the The Paperboys in concert. I fell in love with them and have been listening for years, but I didn't know they were from the area. I'm pretty excited! Plus, Laura and Peter are turning out to be some pretty cool friends and I'm looking forward to spending some girl time with her :)

For those of you who asked, the old blog website is here. You may continue on with your day now.

What is with Washington?

It shouldn't come as a surprise that Portajohn doesn't have a monopoly, but what does surprise me are the other names of outhouses. Yet again, Washington hasn't failed to provide.

Here we have "A gem of a toilet."
And, sketchier still, "Honey Bucket."

Easily amused... as usual

I find it hilarious that an, uh, escort service has a phone number off by only one digit from our number in the ICU. Two in the morning on weekends (sadly, most other nights as well) provides endless amusement at the front desk...

While perhaps somewhat less amusing, but still funny to me, I saw this in the store the other day. Tell me, does the error with the cake balloon immediately jump out at anyone else? It belongs in the dollar store with my "Daily Plammer."

Afternoon at Discovery Park

A little tired, a little worn down, a little blue... Maybe this will perk us all up.

If you're curious, there's more where that came from.

Captain Observant, at your service!

Do you ever see a change so drastic that you wonder if it wasn't that way before and you just didn't notice? Like, for example, a huge hole where a house used to be on your street?

Mystery solved

I saw this the other morning on the walkway and was still trying to figure out what the shiny lines were when I came to the door. Then I saw this.

Cute :)

What is this world coming to?

The Grateful Bread is out of... bread.
Top Pot Doughnuts is out of... doughnuts. No really, completely out.
You're not allowed to bike at... the park.

But Top Pot did offer some small consolation:

It's a fine world we live in

How is it that "only the finest and best ingredients" make it into a huge percentage of food stuffs? Wouldn't that claim lead you to believe you're eating something with ingredients so good they only make it into a small, particularly nutritious item of food? Survey says no.

Great minds think alike

You know he's a kindred spirit when the email says, "...I saw this pic earlier today and thought you would get a kick out of it for some reason. I think we both see things that are just a bit out of place and wonder why????"

A taste of what's to come

It's sixty degrees and rainy out this morning. I've been in denial the past few weeks. Those tree branches starting to turn orange and red? They're just sickly. The subtle change in the hues of green? Figments of my sleep deprived mind. But I can't deny it anymore- fall is rapidly approaching here in Seattle.

Speaking of tastes of the future, I saw this in the nurses lounge last night. Yummy.

It was THIS BIG!

So Jin Sheen and her friend came to Seattle to visit! Well, not just me, but I like to pretend :) We only got to spend a little while together, but we did manage to take a kayaking/whalewatching tour from San Juan Island. It was moderately cold and rainy and the current was six knots in some places, but we were the only group to round the point and were rewarded with a beach to ourselves and a fantastic lunch spread. Our guide was pretty cool too- he served us chocolates on his paddle. That's cool, right?

While we had been told no whales had been sighted for quite a while, we were still hopeful. You can imagine our excitement when we heard about and then saw a pod of orcas way off our port bows (that's left for you landlubbers). You can't imagine our excitement when a second pod came straight at us! This picture doesn't do the experience justice, but as far as I know it was the only picture to be taken. They came at us, and we could hear them "singing" to each other as they passed underneath our kayaks.

Wow. Just... wow. What a treat for us- especially Jin!

What is it called when whales "sing," or communicate to each other?
