An Ode

Oh sprinkle cookie, my heart's delight,

I yearn for you in the night!

When one o'clock the clock does strike,

I ditch my patients for a hike.

Through the hospital quiet and still,

I steal downstairs, my belly to fill.

They open the gates to the midnight grill,

I swipe my badge and foot the bill.

And there you are, for whom I pine

For me to choose while in line.

I see you there, you are mine-

On your festive sprinkles I soon will dine.

(There once was a night without you there,

And I live in fear of a similar scare.

For you there is no comparable fare.

Don't leave me, sugar, I could not bear!)

I balance my bounty on my knee

As I grab a fork and knife, you see.

Then I relate the soups that be

And eye you there so hungrily.

First the sandwich then the chips,

Enjoying my tea in little sips.

(In the wee dark hours my temperature dips-

Tea to warm my pale, blue lips).

Ah, now comes my favorite part!

Your sugary goodness warms my heart!

For you are not just any tart,

Hardly bought from any mart.

Your cookie is so moist and sweet,

And your sprinkled frosting can't be beat.

You fall to pieces as I eat,

The whole endeaver isn't neat.

The other nurses, they did mock,

Unaware of how you rock.

But now we share in DM shock

And talk of how you rock our socks!

Oh sprinkle cookie, my heart's delight,

You are the zenith of my night!
